Otu Odu

The Otu Odu society is a group of prestigious women from the town , Onitsha, in Anambra State. The women are known for their accomplishments, leadership in their community and strong influences in society. ‘Enyi’, which means ‘Elephant’, symbolising their strength and importance to society. Odu Aka refers to the ivory bracelets and Odu Ukwu to the ivory anklets, both made from carved elephant tusks (ivory). They are known to wear white fabric and coral beads.It is limited to Onitsha women who are either indigenes, direct relations, or by marriage.
